Sherlock Holmes appeared in Bengali cinema much before the others like Byomkesh or Feluda. A Bengali film 'Jighangsa' was made out of a very famous Sherlock Holmes novel - The Hound of the Baskervilles - and was released on 20th April, 1951. Interestingly, the film wasn’t blindly scripted following the novel. On the contrary, to make the story relevant in the Bengali society, few clever alterations were made.
